AWJ-Chicago: a little bit of sanity in a crazy industry

Kim Mance, Joanne Von Alroth, Mary HynesAWJ-Chicago supports women in journalism and promotes fair and accurate treatment of women by the media.

The women journalists, and few men, who are members are among the most talented and influential journalists working in print, broadcasting, new media and academia. We are a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization. We provide members a network that we hope offers a little bit of sanity in a crazy industry.

Most of our members are from the Chicago area. They take advantage of our programs and local events

We're on Twitter, AWJ has an active listserv and maintains a Facebook group and page. Members-only privileges include an elaborate listing in our membership directory, as well as admission to the annual summer picnic and inclusion in the Books By Members listing, for members who are also authors. We offer Job Links for all our colleagues.

We award scholarships to promising Chicago-area women studying journalism.

Consider joining.

AWJ-Chicago members also mentor emerging female theater critics in collaboration with Goodman Theatre through our Young Critics Circle program, which includes high school juniors from the city and suburbs.

Fellowship and concrete counsel. That's why I'm a member.  Claire Bushey, freelancer
