An Independent Journalist with an eclectic background in government, start-up business, the non-profit world and social media, Duros is expert at anticipating trends and trailblazing the way for new patterns of thinking.

Her writing for the Huffington Post on the Future of News as a Social Enterprise has been picked up globally. Her ideas have been cited in recent reports by the Free Press, the Poynter Institute and Chicago’s Community Media Workshop on the New News. She participated in the recent advisory committee to the Chicago Community Trust that resulted in the CCT’s innovative Community News Matters initiative that is offering grants to non-profits, for-profits and individuals with promising ideas for enriching the news stream.

A long-time business writer, Duros was Managing Editor of Crain’s City & State, and was most recently Real Estate Editor for the Chicago Sun-Times where she she offered early warnings on subprime lending and the encroaching fiscal crisis, while refocusing a sleepy fantasyland section on the realities of renting and owning a home in Chicago. Over the years she has written for dozens of publications most notably The Wall Street Journal Online, TIME Magazine, The Chicago Sun-Times, several Crain publications. Duros also assists authors with their books, helping them craft proposals and find their voices as authors.

Duros has participated in the early development of numerous online social networks including Fast Company’s Circle of Friends, Liz Ryan’s WorldWIT and Omidyar.net.

Duros spent five years as an aide to Mayor Richard M. Daley and one year at the Chicago Public Schools. In those positions, she worked with Chicago’s (and national) top influencers, including politicians, CEOs, VCs, angel investors, non-profit CEOs and management consultants. She has also been a fundraiser and chief development officer for a national trade association and a homeless shelter for abused women. Duros has a Master’s of Science in Communications from Northwestern University.

Duros is launching her career in public speaking and is available to speak about the cure for zombie newsrooms, the promise of social enterprise for news, social media and women in business and media.

A walker, photographer and meditator, Duros lives in Chicago, where she is active in business, technology and web news organizations and can be spotted at events for the AWJ-Chicago, the Society for Professional Journalists, the Big Ooga and others. She is also a member of the American Society of Journalists and Authors.

No longer content with always being the bridesmaid and never the bride in the book world, Duros is writing her first book, “Sway,” a creative fictional narrative of the life of a big city mayoral aide.
